My boy was born on February 6, 2013, with a complete cleft lip and cleft palate on both sides. He is now 5 months 3 days old. He lives in Kalasin Province. I am really glad, and it is so encouraging to receive a medical care here because I received a very warm welcome and great care from all the doctors, nurses, and officers. I feel that all of the officers coordinated very well. After I gave birth, I found out that my child had a disability. I felt very frightened and sad. I was so worried about everything because this has not happened to anyone in my family before.  At first, my husband’s relatives seemed to not accept my child. The nurses at Kuchinaray hospital told me that this disease can be healed, and they referred my case to Tawanchai Cleft Center.

Six days after giving birth, I received the confirmation that they had already registered the information of my child, including his history and symptoms in Tawanchai Cleft Center Database. I had an appointment on February 12, 2013. I met with the plastic surgery team and nurses, and I received suggestions, treatment guidelines, and information about surgery preparation. In addition, I received a gift set, handout, and contact information for answering further questions. Furthermore, I was admitted to the Post-partum Ward. I also received great care from the pediatrician and breastfeeding training from the nurse because it was very hard for me to do on my own. Moreover, my child received pre-surgical orthodontic treatment because he has a complete bilateral cleft lip and cleft palate. This process will help the Cheiloplasty to be easy and beautiful. Besides, it was done by the orthodontics. I feel that every department collaborated very well throughout the process. Now, I will always take my child to the Tawanchai Foundation for every appointment.

My boy was born in April , 2013, with a complete cleft lip and cleft palate on the left side. He is now just over 3 months old. My boy received care from Tawanchai Cleft Center team, Srinagarind Hospital. I am really glad and I am really thankful because all doctors and nurses took great care of us. I felt a very warm welcome from their hospitality.
I feel that all of the personnel coordinated very well. After I gave birth at Kuchinarai Hospital, the nurses at Kuchinarai Hospital informed us that they registered my boy via the cleft birth registry database and also referred us to Tawanchai Cleft Center for proper treatment. In April, 2013, we had an appointment at the Tawanchai Cleft Center, Srinagarind Hospital. On that day, I was admitted to the Post-partum Ward to receive training on breastfeeding for 3 days. While my child stayed in the hospital, he received pre-surgical orthodontic treatment. It was done by the orthodontist. I feel that every department collaborated very well in this situation.

So far, I am very proud and happy to receive care from the Tawanchai Cleft Center team. I know that this condition did not happen to only my child, but it could happen to anyone. I received great supports, including free transportation from the Thai Red Cross and Tawanchai Cleft Center. For the care, there is no need for improvement. This is the best care I have ever had. I am so thankful to all the doctors and nurses who took great care of my child. We are looking forward to having my child’s surgery soon.

“When healthcare providers told me that my girl had a cleft palate and showed me how it looked, I felt frightened and sad. I had never seen that before. No one else in my family had it. Therefore, I was afraid that it could not be treated. I worried that my child would not be able to breastfeed and would not be able to talk like others. But, a nurse in the labor room took her basic information and entered my child into the cleft birth registry. Then the nurse referred my child to Srinagarind Hospital. The first visit was about breast feeding. We went to the lactation clinic at, Srinagarind Hospital. We were admitted to stay in the hospital in order to receive training about breastfeeding and got a physical examination by a team of pediatricians and surgeons.  After that, my child was referred to a multidisciplinary team. They told us that our next visit would be on November 6, 2013 to have a hearing examination and to determine if my child would be ready to get her surgery.

I, her mother, in addition to her grandmother have Tawanchai Foundation and TWF to thank for making the online registration system. This was critical to allowing my child to have access to speedy care. Also, the hospitality and warm care we received from Tawanchai Foundation and Srinagarind Hospital was highly appreciated during this time of intense stress.”
